In the Death Penalty Study, people were asked: 'Which of the following best describes your overall political beliefs?' The percentage of persons in each group was not controlled with quotas. Researchers figured that quotas on political party affilitation provided adequate control for the percentage of conservatives, who tend to favor the death penalty, and liberals, who tend to oppose the death penalty.
